Frequently Asked Questions

About Good Company

Anyone living with disability, impairment, or requiring support can access Good Company's services. We support NDIS participants, private clients, and clients referred by other agencies such as the Department of Communities.

Good Company operates throughout Perth WA and Melbourne VIC.

Good Company offers services to NDIS participants who have NDIS plans that are either plan-managed or self-managed, which includes the majority of NDIS participants. Good Company is not an NDIS registered provider, so we are unable to provide services to participants with NDIS-managed plans.

Good Company stands out from other disability service providers in several key ways:

Mentorship-Driven Model

Unlike traditional support services that simply assign staff, Good Company pairs participants with dedicated mentors—people who are trained not just to assist, but to empower and build long-term relationships. Our focus is on personal growth, confidence, and connection, not just completing tasks.

Flexible, Participant-Led Support

We offer highly tailored, participant-led services. That means your goals, preferences, and interests drive how we support you. Whether it’s accessing the community, learning life skills, or building independence, you’re in control.

Values-Based Hiring

Our team is handpicked not just for skills or qualifications but for character. Every mentor is chosen because they care, connect, and inspire. We hire people you’d want in your corner.

Consistency You Can Count On

We prioritise long-term, reliable matches between participants and staff, minimising disruptions and building genuine trust — we believe stability is key.

Premium-Level Service Without the Red Tape

Good Company operates outside of traditional bureaucracy and delivers premium-quality, highly responsive support. We don’t just meet NDIS standards—we aim to exceed them, with fast response times, clear communication, and consistent service.

Proactive Communication & Transparency

You’ll never be left wondering. From scheduling to progress reports, we keep you and your support network informed every step of the way.

Culturally Sensitive & Inclusive

We proudly serve diverse communities, including people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTIQ+ individuals, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with respect and tailored support.

We're a group of motivated individuals who are passionate about supporting people living with disability to live their best lives. You can learn more about our team here.

Getting Started

Our team guides you through the process to make things as simple as possible. Learn more about getting started with Good Company.

Yes you can choose your own mentor. Several influencing factors include how long you'd like your supports to be, the mentors that meet your preferences within geographical range, and availability. We guide you through these factors in selection process and the choice is ultimately yours.

If you elect to work with a mentor who lives quite far from you, you can choose to pay a travel charge from your NDIS plan to that mentor to reimburse them for the extended travel.

While most clients we support are NDIS participants, you don't need an NDIS plan to receive support. Good Company also offers support to other Government agencies such as the Department of Communities, as well as individuals who choose to pay for support privately (typically people who aren't eligible for an NDIS plan). If you choose to engage Good Company privately, we are required to charge GST as an Australian service-based business.

We can start your support within a few days of our initial discussion if that's your preference. As we typically liaise with Support Coordinators who work on behalf of NDIS participants, the typical time is between 1-3 weeks before support commencement as Coordinators do their due diligence including checking your NDIS funding, assisting you to complete induction documents, and ensuring any therapist guidance you may have is provided to us to be utilised in your support with Good Company.

NDIS & Funding

The NDIS is a Government funded scheme that provides support and services to people living with disability to help them complete tasks of daily living, engage in the community, secure meaningful employment and achieve their goals. You can learn more about the NDIS by viewing our page Understanding the NDIS or by visiting their website at ndis.gov.au.

We can help you to understand your NDIS plan in relation to the services we provide. The best way to gain a thorough understanding of your NDIS plan is by communicating with and learning from your Plan Manager, Support Coordinator, Local Area Coordinator (LAC), and Support Provider.

A Local Area Coordinator (LAC) is someone funded by the NDIS to help you understand, access, and make the most of your NDIS plan. They’re not support workers or service providers, but they play a key role in guiding you through the NDIS process.

An LAC can help you with:
  • Understanding the NDIS and checking if you’re eligible

  • Creating your first NDIS plan based on your goals and needs

  • Putting your plan into action by connecting you with services and community supports

  • Preparing for plan reviews and making updates as your goals change

  • Finding local opportunities to participate in community life

A Support Coordinator is a professional funded through your NDIS plan to help you understand, organise, and maximise your supports. They work directly with you to make sure your plan is working for your goals.

A Support Coordinator can help you:
  • Understand your NDIS plan and what funding you have

  • Connect you with service providers like Good Company and other local supports

  • Coordinate your supports so everything works together smoothly

  • Resolve issues or barriers that might come up during service delivery

  • Prepare for plan reviews by tracking your progress and updating your goals

A Plan Manager is a professional who helps you manage the funding in your NDIS plan. They take care of the financial side of things—so you can focus on your goals.

A Plan Manager can help you with:
  • Paying your service providers on your behalf

  • Tracking your budgets so you don’t overspend

  • Handling NDIS invoices and claims

  • Providing monthly statements so you can see where your funds are going

  • Giving you more choice and control—you can use both registered and non-registered providers

Good Company can provide services to participants with plan-managed, or self-managed NDIS plans. We are unable to work with participants who have NDIA-managed plans, however you can apply to the NDIA to change the management type of your plan to either plan-managed or self-managed if you'd like to work with Good Company. Your Support Coordinator can typically assist you with this.

Services & Support

Good Company offers a range of 1:1 support services including;

  • Disability Support (non capacity building focused)
  • Disability Mentoring (capacity building focused)
  • Finding and Keeping a Job support to find a role you're passionate about, learn the ropes during your first few months, and maintain the standards required by your new employer
  • Employment Support (support on-the-job) with your new or existing role
  • Microenterprise Support to plan, launch, and operate a business idea you're passionate about.

Good Company doesn't offer support with manual handling or personal care (toileting/showering). We're a boutique support service that excels in mentoring type tasks, so the training we provide our team members is instead focused in these areas.

We offer tailored support for all age groups—whether you’re a child, teen, or adult. Our approach is flexible and person-centred, designed to meet your stage of life, goals, and interests.

For Children (0–12 years):
  • Mentoring and play-based support

  • Assistance with routines at home or in the community

  • Support to engage in hobbies and interests

For Teens (13–17 years):
  • Goal-based mentoring and life skills training

  • Social connection and confidence-building

  • Support with school transitions or part-time work readiness

  • Skill-building for greater autonomy and choice

We match each person with a mentor who suits their age, needs, and personality, ensuring support feels natural and empowering—not clinical or one-size-fits-all.

Staffing & Safety

Every team member at Good Company is carefully selected for their qualities such as qualifications, experience, and character. We believe great support starts with great people.

Here’s what you can expect from our wider team:
  • Relevant qualifications or genuine interest in disability support, community services, or related fields

  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or up-to-date police checks.

  • Hands-on experience working with people of diverse needs and backgrounds. New team members who don't already have this hands-on experience have direct access to senior team members who provide guidance on demand throughout your support sessions

  • Ongoing training and supervision to stay up-to-date with best practices

  • Strong values and genuine care—we hire people who are in this for the right reasons

We don’t just match you with someone who’s available—we match you with someone who’s a great fit for your needs, personality, and goals.

All Good Company staff and mentors undergo comprehensive background checks before they begin working with participants.

Our screening process includes:
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check or a recent National Police Clearance

  • Working With Children Check (where applicable)

  • Thorough interview assessments for values, attitude, and reliability

  • A requirement for team members to provide proof of vehicle registration and comprehensive insurance

We take your safety seriously. That’s why we only work with people who meet our strict screening standards—and who genuinely care.

Absolutely. At Good Company, we believe the right connection makes all the difference.

If you feel your current mentor isn’t the best fit—whether it’s personality, communication style, or something else—we encourage you to let us know. We’ll listen without judgment and work with you to find a team member who better suits your needs and preferences.

Here’s how it works:
  • Reach out to us via phone, email, or the contact us page on our website

  • Share what’s not working (you can be as detailed or brief as you like)

  • We’ll work with you to match you with someone new based on your goals, personality, and support style

Policies & Procedures

We thrive on feedback as it helps us to continuously improve to better meet your support needs. If you have any feedback, or a complaint, we'd love to hear about it.

You can provide feedback or make a complaint via this link to our feedback and complaints page our website, by emailing us at [email protected] or calling us on 08 9334 6995 for Perth, and 03 9069 7866 for Melbourne.

We understand that plans can change and unexpected illness occurs. Good Company follows the NDIS cancellation guidelines to ensure fairness for both clients and staff.

Here’s what you need to know:
  • Short-notice cancellations (less than 7 days’ notice) may still be billed under the NDIS Price Guide.

  • No cancellation fee applies if you cancel with at least 7 days’ notice.

  • If you frequently cancel or don’t attend scheduled support, we’ll work with you to find a solution that meets your needs.

How to cancel:
  • Call or email our office directly.

  • We recommend giving as much notice as possible so that we can find alternate paid work for the mentor who was going to support you.

Why is the cancellation policy 7 days?

We're constantly working to provide you with the best team of mentors. Part of getting them to stick around includes providing them with fair work conditions, including being paid when the work they have adjusted their schedule is cancelled with short notice.

Need to make a last-minute change? Just get in touch—we’re here to help and will always do our best to be flexible.

At Good Company, your privacy and confidentiality are taken very seriously. We follow strict policies to make sure your personal information stays secure and is only used for the right reasons.

This includes:
  • Secure digital systems: We store all personal records in password-protected systems with restricted staff access.

  • Strict confidentiality: Only team members directly involved in your support can access your details—and only what they need to know.

  • Privacy compliance: We follow the NDIS Practice Standards, Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and all relevant legislation.

  • Staff training: Every team member receives training in privacy, data security, and ethical handling of client information.

We take quality and compliance seriously to make sure participants receive safe, consistent, and high-standard support.

Here’s how we maintain our high standards:
  • Skilled & screened staff: All mentors and support workers are thoroughly vetted, trained, and hold current clearances such as NDIS Worker Screening Checks or Police Checks, First aid and CPR certificates, drivers licences, vehicle registration and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance.

  • Ongoing training: Our team receives regular training on disability best practices, participant rights, and person-centred support. Our senior team members review every support note to ensure we can provide the right guidance to team members when they need it.

  • Policies that protect you: We have clear policies on privacy, complaints, incidents, and duty of care—all aligned with NDIS Code of Conduct expectations.

  • Regular feedback & reviews: We seek feedback from participants and families to improve our services, and review support delivery regularly.

  • Professional oversight: Our management team monitors service quality closely, and we stay up to date with NDIS rules, pricing, and compliance obligations.

You don’t need to be NDIS-registered to do things right—we hold ourselves to a higher standard because participants deserve the best.
