Open Employment

Open Employment is working for an employer in a business that is not owned by you. If you’re interested in securing long term employment and need some support to strengthen your chances or develop your employment skills, our Employment mentoring program is a great place to start.
Our evidence-based curriculum coupled with ongoing training and support from our mentors offers you a supportive environment on your journey towards reaching your employment goals.

This is Ken's Story

We worked with Ken to identify roles that interested him. Together we met with local businesses and Ken began a work placement that led to him gaining new skills and securing paid work in a role where he gets to help people.

“I love working at Coles and helping the customers, it is really nice”

Self Employment or Micro Enterprise Development

Self-Employment is working in your own business. If you’ve struggled to find your place in a traditional workplace or role, you can build your own work environment by starting your own business. This can be a rewarding endeavour that lets you make a living from your passions and hobbies. It comes with its own set of challenges, so we’ll equip you with the skills and knowledge to make it happen. Head on over to our Micro Enterprise page to learn more.

This is Niko's Story

We worked with Niko to develop his existing business by simplifying processes to free up time and refining techniques to achieve strategic outcomes.
Niko is passionate about sailing and specialises in creating high-quality equipment & accessories for those passionate about sailing.

“With guidance from Good Company’s team, I am making good progress on structuring my business to thrive whilst accommodating my disability.”

Good Company’s Supported Employment

Your stepping stone to open employment. Work with one of our mentors in a supported role offered by Good Company. We contract employment services to a range of businesses and match participants to roles that give them meaning and purpose. Typically, people in supported employment roles earn a wage of only $1-$5 per hour, but as advocates for equal employment we pay above award wages to our supported employees while building their skills and capacity on the job.

This is Aeron's Story

Through one of our employment partnerships with locally owned business ‘Little Dough Dealer’ we were able to offer Aeron a supported role where she enjoys interacting with the community and developing her work skills while being paid an above-award-wage.

“Getting out on weekends earning money while interacting with the local community is something I really enjoy. By working with Good Company I’ve been able to experience what it’s like to work in open employment.”

Employment support FAQ

Having your own job or business gives you purpose and connection. It’s an important step on your journey towards independence that rewards you with security and income to improve your well-being and experience more of what life has to offer.

Within our employment program our micro enterprise development module encourages participants to accurately reflect on the progress and sustainability of their venture. We’ve combined the highly successful structure from National Disability Services with innovative techniques demonstrated by employment specialists worldwide. This allows us to build on your strengths and identify weaknesses to ensure nothing holds you back from reaching your potential.

If your NDIS plan includes an employment related goal then it’s likely you have funding for supported employment. You can talk to your plan manager or reach out to us for more information.

Supported employment provides opportunities for participants who may not have the confidence or skill set to go straight into open employment.

If you believe self-employment/owning a business is the right path for you, we will work with you to explore funding options for your start-up.
