Life’s Better When You’re Connected
What Is Social and Community Participation Support?
Under the NDIS Core Supports, Social and Community Participation funding allows individuals to access supports that promote active community involvement and personal development. Our services focus on building confidence, social skills, and independence by helping participants take part in:
Local events and activities
Sports, music, or art programs
Social groups and friendship circles
Volunteer opportunities or work experience
Recreational outings and public transport training
Faith-based or cultural gatherings
Education and skill-building workshops
Our mentors work one-on-one or in small groups to support participants in safely and confidently engaging with their local communities — including across Greater Perth and Melbourne suburbs such as Carlton, Footscray, Dandenong, Frankston, Joondalup, Midland, and Cannington.
Why Community Engagement Matters
Social isolation can affect wellbeing, self-esteem, and independence. That’s why we prioritise genuine connection — not just ticking boxes. Learning how to start conversations and build rapport are some of the fundamental skills we teach to help you feel calm and confident in new environments. This provides valuable opportunities to create sustainable friendships with likeminded people.
At Good Company, we:
Build trusted, long-term relationships between participants and mentors
Support individual choices — participants choose what they want to do and who they do it with
Celebrate diversity, culture, and personal expression
Focus on real-world outcomes: confidence, friendships, and community belonging
We understand that for many participants, small steps can lead to big milestones — like navigating a shopping centre independently, or attending a group class for the first time. Every win counts.
Meet People. Make Memories.
Tailored Support for All Ages and Abilities
Our approach is never one-size-fits-all. We take the time to understand each participant’s goals, interests, and challenges to deliver support that is:
Person-centred
Flexible and creative
Aligned with their NDIS plan goals
Supportive of cultural, linguistic and sensory needs
Whether you’re a young adult exploring social confidence or a mature participant reconnecting with the community, we provide respectful, non-clinical, and down-to-earth support that empowers you to thrive.
Our Mentors Make the Difference
Our experienced support mentors are the heart of Good Company. Trained in disability support, mentoring, and NDIS best practices, they bring both professional skill and human warmth to their work. With the support of a mentor, you’ll overcome your barriers and finally have the chance to experience these important connections. We carefully match participants with mentors based on personality, interests, and shared goals — because the right connection makes all the difference.

Social and Community Participation FAQ
What is NDIS Social and Community Participation?
Social and Community Participation support assists participants to engage in activities outside the home and connect with their community. This may include attending social events, recreational activities, appointments, classes or community programs based on the participant’s interests and goals.
Is support delivered one-on-one or in groups?
Supports can be delivered one-on-one or, where appropriate, alongside others. Many participants prefer individual support tailored to their interests rather than pre-set group activities. The structure depends on the participant’s goals and preferences.
Can participants choose the activities they want to attend?
Yes. Activities are participant-led wherever possible. Supports are planned collaboratively to reflect the participant’s interests, cultural background, comfort level and personal goals.
Are supports available on evenings or weekends?
Flexible scheduling may be available, including evenings and weekends, depending on availability and the participant’s plan. Flexibility helps participants engage in community activities that occur outside standard business hours.
Can Social and Community Participation include support to attend appointments?
Yes. Supports may include assistance to attend community-based appointments or activities, where this aligns with the participant’s goals. The focus remains on promoting independence and confidence over time.
How does Social and Community Participation build independence?
Support workers encourage skill development during activities, such as communication, decision-making, travel training and confidence in new environments. The aim is to increase the participant’s comfort and independence in community settings.
Can participants be involved in choosing their support worker?
Where possible, participants are involved in selecting and matching with support workers. Compatibility, communication style and shared interests are important factors in supporting meaningful participation.
What funding category covers Social and Community Participation?
Social and Community Participation is generally funded under Core Supports, particularly Assistance with Social and Community Participation. Participants should confirm details with their support coordinator or plan manager to ensure alignment with their individual NDIS plan.
Is this support suitable for participants who experience anxiety or social hesitation?
Yes. Supports can be paced appropriately for participants who feel anxious or unsure in community settings. Gradual exposure, structured planning and strengths-based approaches may be used to build confidence over time.
