Where to start

Which NDIS employment support is right for me?

  • You’re in Year 12 or left school in the last two years and want to work: start with SLES.
  • You’ve finished school and want a job, or want to keep the one you have: look at Finding and Keeping a Job.
  • You’d rather work for yourself: read about microenterprise funding.
  • Your plan feels hard to use, or you need help connecting your supports: read about support coordination.

Three tips before any planning meeting

  1. Write work into your goals. The NDIS funds supports that link to the goals in your plan. A clear goal such as “I want a part-time job in retail within 12 months” makes employment funding much easier to justify.
  2. Bring evidence. Reports from teachers, therapists, employers or your current provider show what support you need and why.
  3. Ask about the budget category. Employment supports usually sit in your Capacity Building budget. Check where the funding is and how much there is.
